The overheat is a safety mechanism built into the software to prevent permanent damage to the PCB due to excessive heat. You can confirm that your MV1 is overheating by observing the following error code via the LED panel: 3 red LED flashing 10x
Main Causes for an Overheat:
1.) A typical session for dry herb is comprised of 6-8 draws using our recommended mode sequence (+MV1: Recommended Mode Sequence); and 8-10 draws for Concentrate Mode. Taking more draws than recommended could result in overheating.
2.) The position of your stem needs adjusting. The further you pull the stem out, the less resistance you'll have, the deeper it's pushed down equals higher resistance. Depending on how you're inhaling, you will need to adjust your mouthpiece accordingly. As a guideline, start by pulling the stem all the way out just until the groove 3/4 of the way down is hidden. You know it's positioned right when you hear a bubbling sound when you're taking a draw.
3.) Improper inhale technique (+MV1: Draw Technique)
4.) Improperly seated or slightly raised heatsink. Check to see if the heatsink is raised out of position, about 1/16"; this can happen when replacing the crucible or during use. (thank you customer, Mike for this one!)
5.) Not drawing long enough/Not drawing when you're supposed to (+MV1: Haptic Sequence)
6.) Air bypass (+MV1: Reassemble Heat Sink)
7.) Crucible is not packed correctly (+MV1: How Do I Load the Crucible?)
* Note: Underpacking can also cause an overheat. Use the article/video referenced above as a guideline.
8.) Blocked air pathways (+MV1: Cleaning)
- Check these areas especially; these air pathways can get gummed up even after 1-2 sessions
9.) You have the old design heat sink (+Buying MV1: How Do I Know My MV1 is Up to Date?)
10.) It's possible your MV1 is running hotter than normal and can be manually calibrated (+MV1: Manual Calibration)
11.) Back to back sessions
- To help prevent this allow your MV1 to cool down for 3-4 minutes before starting the second session. Remove the heat sink, the crucible, and open the chamber door during this cool down period)
We have seen units overheat way before expected. We've identified this as a "premature overheat." As noted, a typical session for flower is comprised of 6-8 draws, 8-10 for concentrates. If your MV1 is overheating on for example draw 3 on your 1st session of the day, please write into Customer Care and provide the following information:
1.) Order number or Retailer name
2.) Serial Number of your MV1 - You can find it on the box, or behind the unit when you remove the battery
3.) Contact Information (Full name, phone number, and Ship-to address)
4.) Reported Issue
5.) Troubleshooting you've tried
